My last day in Monterchi and it has been at a slower pace than any of my other days in Italy. I woke up ridiculously early and then snoozed until ridiculously late, went to Sansepolcro to my 'local' and had my 'usual' then said arrivederci to my barman, drove to where I thought the market was today, not there, drove to the castle city for something to do, came back for lunch at my local osteria, said ciao and grazie to the owner there.
I have spent the afternoon getting my crap together and sending another parcel home. Every time I go to send a parcel home it's never been straight forward - Here is a box, here is where I want it to go to, thanks. Nope, couldn't be that easy. There is a festival here tomorrow (that I am missing) so the Posta here in Monterchi is closed today. Of course. So I drove to the next itty bitty village and its Posta closes every day at 1300 (it was 1500) so I drove back to the castle city. There were a few people waiting - they have a supermarket deli number system at the Posta - and by the time I was finished there were hundreds (or so it looked) waiting. I finally got my parcel away with the guy at the counter saying to me 'Please, please signora, please just go away"! I can have that affect on some people!
I am almost finished sorting through my crappola, just got the basics left in the bathroom so I can make an early getaway to stupid bloody Avis in Arezzo in the morning.
After my horrendous start to this week in Monterchi, I have really loved it here. It is absolutely beautiful scenery everywhere you look, the people are much friendlier than in the cities, and I have been sleeping like a rock since going to the doctoro and got whatever magic little drops I take at bed time.
I'm moving on to Pescara tomorrow for three nights, then I'm going deeper south. I am staying at a B & B in Pescara that is supposed to have WiFi - fingers crossed because I really don't like not being able to connect to the net when I want to. I also need to start looking at accommodation in Siciliy for the week after next, then Amalfi then Naples.
Not sure if I will say in Roma before I go to Seoul, I am thinking about staying a couple of train stops or bus rides out of the city, I will have to see what accommodation is like once I get decent internet connection. I will upload some of my photos from this week when the connection is powerful enough to take it!
I am also going to try to record the evening church bells and upload that. Each evening at 7pm the church bells play a little ditty to indicate it is kids' bedtime, then at 10pm it plays again to indicate it is adult bed time. It is a catchy tune and I have ended up with it going around and around my head as I am trying to get to sleep, so being the thoughtful person I am, I will try to get it on here for everyone else to have it going around and around their head before they go to sleep!
Catch you in Pescara!
