7th to 11th Ottobre

7th
Walked in to Piazza Navona this morning, then on to Fuori Mercato where a woman was preparing cups of fruit salad, good to see she had gloves on so all the health and safety laws were covered, caught the bus to Termini to ask Tourist Info about tours to Napoli - they only go to Napoli AND Pompeii (don't want to go back to Pompeii), caught the bus back to Vatican where I sat at a table and ate lunch, while eating I realised where I was sitting - if you tried to get me to eat my lunch at a table in the middle of the road with cars going past in Geelong I'd tell you that you were mad!  Here everyone does it without batting an eye!

I'm going to post another box of crappola home, I'd rather do that then not have to lug so much home with me.  Besides, while I was at termini train station, I stood back and watched the pickpockets at work.  They watched people with more than one case, and one woman in particular had a case and a bag, like me, but the idiot was struggling and making a bit of a scene about it.  The pickpockets were on to her in a flash - lucky for her the cops happened to walk past at the same time so the pick pockets made a quick left turn, but who needs extra crap anyway.

I'm tired again tonight, always tired.  Going to have a wash soon then go and find somewhere to have a snack then come back and try to have an early night.  I always intend to, but never do. I am going to go up to Travestere, I say up, it's along the river, where I had lunch with that woman talking to me yesterday.  I am 'friends' with a guy and his dog on facebook so am going to meet them for half an hour at 5, then I will walk back along the river and come back to my room.

That's about it for today I think

8th
Ciao - buona sera - I'm about to eat dinner, I wasn't going to come out again but I'm glad I did, I'm hungry now.  I've ordered fettucini with cheese and pepper.  Hope it's nice.

I went for a walk to the park this morning then I went for a walk the other direction to the Jewish quarter, wandered around there for a while then went in to Trastevere, sat and watched people for a while, then wandered, then met up with Max and his dog Alberto.  I am Alberto's friend on Facebook.  We went for a walk, went for a drink then I walked back along the river to my room where I was dripping - it is ridiculously humid here.  Not sure what I will do tomorrow yet, the next two days I have the tours booked then I leave Saturday.  I need to go to the post office and post the parcel - that could take all day!

9th
I just went for a walk, further than I realised, still no sense of direction, anyway, walked past a shop front thing and a girl was jabbering away so loudly at one of the guys standing right next to her, she was sooooooo loud, I walked past, looked her in the eye and said 'shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh'.   She stopped.  Looked at me.  Turned to the guy and started to whisper LOL

Just packed the parcel, it wouldnt stay stuck down so have superglued it closed! It's fricken heavy!
That's it now! No more!

10th
I went on a tour today.  Wasn't too bad.  The whole being part of a tour I mean.  Until at the end of the day I did notice that the group had just stopped and stood dead centre of the footpath without a care in the world, or a worry that someone might be trying to get past, like the grumpy lady with her two dogs.  Don't blame her.
We went to Hadrian's Villa and Villa d'Este.  It was interesting and I did learn a lot.
We went to Hadrian's Villa first.  He built his villa - a whole city really - just outisde of Rome in Tivoli so he wouldn't have to put up with neighbours.  He also built underground roads for his slaves and workers to use so he didn't have to see them.  I think I am related to him
Then we went to Tivoli for lunch which was ok
Then we went to Villa d"Este where the place has a gazillion of beautiful waterfalls.  He tricked the town into giving him the land to build his villa (almost a city) and told them he would provide them with water, which he did, but he used most of the water on his fountains etc.  Makes my fish pond look a little pissy!

Anyway, by 3 I'd had enough.  I'm sunburnt and sick to death of walking so I stopped and just hung around a couple of the fountains and the rest of the group kept going, then we were at the bus by 3.45 and back in Rome by 4.45.  I'm sunburnt and absolutely stuffed but have some fab photos.

Last day tomorrow

I'm going to go back and check out places then come back and pack.

When I get home I'm not going to walk for a whole day

11th
I am so glad I cancelled the tour I was going to go on this morning, I was so tired after yesterday it was hard to get out of bed this morning.

After breakfast - which is always huge, crossants, bread, cheese, wafer biscuits, coffee etc etc (I save some for lunch sometimes and for afternoon tea and even dinner when I can't be stuffed going out) I walked along the same road I always walk and there is a homeless man who always has a huge smile and says 'buon giorno' so I took him the bag of all the crossants, bread, cheese, yoghurt, biscuits I had in the fridge that I had saved from breakfasts and gave them to him.  I saw him this afternoon and he was as pissed as a maggot.  I was going to give him my bag of change but because he was pissed I didn't, I gave some to a homeless guy with a dog, told him it was for the dog, he nodded then probably ran to the bottle shop!

Then I walked into Piazza Navona and wandered around the side streets and found a little pizzeria place so stopped and had some pasta for lunch with the grumpiest waiter I have ever seen in my whole life anywhere in the world.  So grumpy that when he put my lunch down I just burst out laughing, he almost smiled.  Almost.

Then I came back to my room because I'm buggered, stuffed around there for a while, then went out again because every morning I have seen this little old dog sitting next to his dad and every morning I said 'buon giorno'.  Today I bought him a ball and he wasn't even there to give it to, so I gave it to the man and told him I would be back, so I walked around, then went back and had a bit of a play with him - Jack - 17 years old, and all he wants to do is walk - a bit like Daizzee used to be, I think he should be in with aunty but he's happy.

Saw a dog that made me do a double take it looked so much like Daizzee, she peed on my foot,  then I stopped at a little cafe near my room and had a drink with a couple of older signore who were enjoying an iced tea.  Went back to my room, downloaded photos and wasn't going to but have come out to where I was last night and I'm having a pizza for dinner.  Artichoke pizza and the base is as thin as paper.  Probably the best and last pizza I eat until I'm back in Italy again ...
