Barcelona Day 3

Oh
My
God

I had forgotten how much I walk when I am travelling.  My feet are killing me.

I left early (for Spanish time) around 9.30, had breakfast and walked around until I found the square where I had to meet the tour I took today of the Gothic quarter.  The Sunday market was setting up.  The market consists of mostly men selling coins and swapping bottle tops.

Sunday market and bottle tops to swap - serious business

I found a café where I could sit and watch the Christmas market being set up.

Europe is so civilised, he was in the café with his mum - everyone was making such a fuss of him

I bought another bauble and there is mistletoe everywhere at the market

I wandered around the market for a while then joined the tour.  It was a three hour tour and we went through the Gothic quarter and the Jewish quarter, if I ever return to Barcelona I think I would like to stay in that area.  Lots of artisan shops tucked away in the laneways and streets.  We saw the oldest buildings in Barcelona and the remaining part of the Roman wall that used to surround the city.  Underneath the oldest building are Roman ruins, we didn't get to see them though, but we saw Roman columns that have apartments built around them.

I love the lanes and alleys of the Gothic quarter
this sign shows the horse and carts that used to use the lanes which way to go in the one way lane ways

these are speed humps to slow down the horse and carts so they didn't do damage to the buildings

After the tour I had the most delicious tapas and a glass of wine for lunch then wound my way through the meandering lane ways of the Gothic quarter and made it back to my room where I think I might stay now for the rest of the day, I think my feet will thank me if I don't walk on them for a while.

Tapas for lunch and they were delicious!
