Boxing Day in Rome

I had nothing much planned today so I strolled around and arrived at the Spanish Steps, nowhere near as many people there as last time, but still lots of people.  Then, I wandered up to Piazza Popolo, again, not as many people as last time.  This is a good time to visit Rome.  It's not too cold with a jumper and jacket, when I've been before it's been horribly hot, this time of year is better for me.

I wandered around and reached Piazza Navona, there are a couple more Christmas market stalls there now, I got a couple of Befana's and another bauble - man I hope the post office is open tomorrow or Thursday so I can send some stuff home before I go to Venice on Friday!

I stopped at a H & M shop to get a nail file, Guy Sebastian was singing on the radio, there was one till out of four open with a chick standing at a closed till.  I waited at the open till and she ignored me.  Another woman walked up to her, she then opened the till, served the woman and closed the till again.  I walked over to her and she said 'chiuso' (closed).  They are starting to shit me.  I was just going to walk out the shop with the file because then someone would take notice of me, but instead I took two euro out of my purse, left it on the counter and walked out. I had forgotten so much!

I go to Napoli tomorrow on the train for the afternoon.  I'm looking forward to that, then Thursday hopefully get my nails done and post office sorted. back to my room to get my other stuff sorted ready to go Friday morning.

I have booked a business class seat, a seat on its own, so that I can have my case beside me, because it is so heavy I cannot lift it up to the luggage shelf where it is meant to go in economy.  If I don't put it on the luggage shelf there is nowhere else for it to go, so business class on my own suits me just fine!

I've noticed this holiday the dirtiness of Rome.  I know it's ridiculous old, but gee it's dirty.  There are little rivers of liquid that run from the side of shops, across the path and to the road.  Those little rivers are usually dog pee, sometimes human pee, sometimes both.  I make sure I don't stand in any of it but I see other people just strolling through as if it's not big deal.  If it's not pee, it is spit.  Outside the front door the other morning was a huge gorby that nearly made me vomit.  The people cough and sneeze to the open air, I have never seen anyone cover their mouth or nose, I walked past a coffee shop and a girl behind the counter sneezed all over everything except a tissue or her hand.
