It is farrreeehhhhhhzzzzzzzzzing in Venezia today!!
2 degrees so not quite freezing but cold enough for me to order a hot chocolate that was so thick it was like chocolate soup. Just terrible
I've walked to find where the opera is tomorrow night so I could pay for my ticket, I found the place quite easily but there was no one there, so I might try again this afternoon. But I also thought I might go to Murano this afternoon. I'm in my room having a wrap and will have a cuppa then go back out and see what time the vaporetto leaves etc.
I found a supermarket this morning that had befana (a witch that brings kids lollies on 6 January) stuff everywhere, I love the befana tradition but mostly because I love befana. I got a couple of things from the super mercato then wound my way back to san marco, went into a place that had burgers and rolls and ordered a panino insalata - salad sandwich - then the guy said something really fast and I said no, I thought he asked if I wanted a drink and he just looked at me and said if you cannot speak Italian speak English. I looked at him and told him I speak Italian and then I said 'e' importante essere gentile' 'it is important to be kind' and he looked away - bastardo. Then four boys around 17 or 18 came in and asked for a chicken schnitzel roll in oztraylean and then he pretended he didn't know what they were saying, they weren't being rude or smart, just asking. So I send again 'e' importante essere gentile, hanno chiesto panino pollo 'schnitzel'- they asked for a chicken schnitzel roll. Then the bastardo said 'I do not understand english' and I said 'lo so' - I know. But then he went on to say how he knows seven languages, and I said 'bene, ma, e' importante essere gentile' - good but it is important to be kind. The boys just looked at me and I said in English, it's ok boys, he is being rude and then they just started all talking to me at once about how rude everyone has been to them, I felt sorry for them - then I told them to be very careful because they will get ripped off etc and then they all started talking at once again about how they were being ripped off!! They all couldn't tell me fast enough about how they get ripped off and how people are being rude to them. They were moving on to Switzerland in a couple of days to go skiing so they will have fun.
The nunnery rooms have the bare necessities and that's probably a lot more than the nuns have, but it's comfortable, very clean, very safe and very very quiet so I'm happy here, I just wanted to be able to make a cuppa whenever I wanted and they don't extend to that luxury so I bought myself a travelling kettle today - an itty bitty kettle. I have no idea if I am allowed to make a cuppa in my room so will hide my new purchase when I go out in the mornings so they don't come across my loot when they are cleaning my room - the nuns don't actually do the cleaning, they have a Mary Maid that does them. I don't know what the nuns do during the day, they aren't here and don't get back here until around 8pm so dunno where they go all day or what they are doing there.
I've been to Murano this afternoon. First I went somewhere else, I'm not sure where, I got on the wrong traghetto (ferry) but realised as soon as it started moving that it wasn't going anywhere near the Murano direction so I got off at the first stop, I will be going back to that place. There was NO-ONE around and it was fabulous!! The view was pretty amazing too - it is opposite San Marco.
View from the stop I got off when I realised I wasn't going to Murano
