wow, what a day!
I posted some clothes and shoes home this morning, that was such a fiasco!! I stood in line for ages, went through the system of taking a ticket and waiting my turn twice to finally get served by a guy who couldn't speak english but we worked it out to finally have him scream at me and abuse me when I tried to pay with my visa - when I said 'ok,calm down' and gave him the cash he was all 'grazie segniora, buon giorno - thank you have a good day' gawd they are emotional!
Then I went for a last stroll around Florence and caffe' (loving italian coffee) before getting on the train to Pisa.
(My last caffe in Forence)
That was mostly uneventful, only one begger working the trains today. I got off at Pisa and got on my next train that was heading for Milan, to get on to the carriage (you have to book a seat and sit in that seat) but the air conditioning wasn't working and the windows wouldn't open because they aren't supposed to because the carriage is air conditioned! One woman kicked up a huge stink which I was very grateful for because I could hardly breath it was so hot and they told us to go to another carriage thank god.
The ride from Pisa to here was in and out of tunnels that are dug in to the side of cliffs, when you come out of a tunnel you get the most magnificient view, one side is mountains the other is the blue water of the riviera - bloody beautiful!
I got here finally - almost 4 hours on the train - and it is a little cooler thank goodness.
(My first view of Santa Margherita Lingure as I got off the train)
The B & B is ok, my room isnt air conditioned but has a ceiling fan, the balcony that "overlooks the water" doesnt quite over look the water! That room was "already booked out" surprise surprise, but as I went for a walk before I noticed that there isn't actually a room that faces the water!
(my room and balcony and the view from my balcony)
Then after I dropped my bags I went for a walk, to the end of the street - about 100 metres, went one way and went to the supermarket and got some fruit etc, then went for a walk the other way just to have a look, and found the water. Absolutely bloody beautiful. I sat for a while then went and had a drink at one of the waterfront restaurants and some prawns, then left there and walked back to my room eating the most delicious caffe' and dark chocolate gelati.
I have had a great day, this place is bloody beautiful, I am glad I am here for 5 days, it is just what the dr ordered I think! I will get the ferry to a couple of the villages in Cinque Terre just because I can, but think I will also spend some R & R here in Santa Margherita Lingure. This is what I worked so hard for!
