Firstly, thanks everyone for your emails, I am loving hearing from you, molto grazie!
and once I got off the train, I followed the crowd. After a while I ran out of road and had to veer left, - this is what I saw -
I kept walking towards the tower and found a small pizzeria close by so had a delicious salami pizza and sat and enjoyed the view.
(the view I had while I ate my lunch)
The tower leans a lot more than I thought and it isn't as high as I thought. There were hundreds of people around doing the tourist photo thing. I asked a woman to take my photo - she did, literally. I meant to include the tower in the background! I ended up with another self portrait -
Today (Tuesday) I walked in to the Uffizi Gallery, stopping once again at the Ponte Vecchio. I stopped and had caffe'- I am LOVING Italian caffe' - and band aided my poor feet, then walked on to the gallery.
It was fantastic to see some of the art works that I had studied at Uni, and some others I had never seen before. It was so freaking hot though, my hair was dripping, my top was wet through ... nice! I sat in the shade when I came out of the gallery and had a delicious brunch of caffe' fredo e bruschetta then walked to the Duomo again, just because I can, and wandered around the streets until I came across a market where I got some linen pants and a lovely top. The women here dress absolutely beautifully - even when they are wearing jeans and a tshirt they carry themselves beautifully. The men - hmmmm what can I say! You can certainly tell an Italian man from a tourist!I have been using my Italian every day, a lot of Italians speak english to me but while they practise their english on me I practise my Italian on them! Some speak Italian back to me, if they speak very slowly I can mostly understand what they mean - like the man at the market who sold me three pairs of pants for the price of two - I understood that bargain!
I'm off to Santa Margherita Ligure tomorrow for five nights. I am hoping to get to a few of the Cinque Terre towns and have a bit of a relax while I am there. I'm assuming I won't be walking as much as I have been, but who can tell!
