ciao tutti!!
2nd day in Perugia - I like this place, full of very, very, extremely old; very old; and old.
This morning I had breakfast then went in to town had caffe then got the on-off bus that took us around everywhere for an hour, then was sitting at a little cafe hidden away from everywhere enjoying the peace when a couple and their two kids came and spoiled my fun!
(Views from two lookouts)
I managed to find somewhere to get my nails done but had to fill in time until 4.30 so went and found the two sets of escalators that go from the very bottom to the very top of Perugia. One set has one escalator then a heap of stairs, the other set has four or five (can't remember) sets of escalators, one after the other, BUT after the first one down you are in an 'underground' city, you can eventually walk out of that, or go down the next 4 escalators. I did both just because.
I have learned not to walk around with my map in my hand here, the beggars, hand bag sellers, and anyone wanting money for nothing make a bee line for anyone with a map.
While I was filling in time I found a hair dresser and went in and had my hairs chopped off, and I love it! Cheap as chips, 25 euro, then I went and had my nails done, and paid 3 times as much as I do at home!! Swings and roundabouts! During the hour or so I was having my nails done, the chick who didn't know any English and I chatted to each other the whole time. My Italian and my knack for charades gets me by in conversations with non-english speaking Italians. I have lost count how many people have asked me what language we speak in Australia!
I then went and had coffee and have come back to my room to download photos, email la madre and il padre e Daizzee, and get my things together for tomorrow's train trip to Arezzo, then DRIVE - JESUS!!!
It's still very warm, Italy is having a heat wave (of course!) but today I saw a woman walking around in a coat for goodness sake! One hint of a breeze and they are out and about in coats, hats and gloves!
Perugia is busy at the moment, there is a murder trial on and there are tv film crews from everywhere, America, England, probably Australia. I dont know anything about it though because I haven't tried to read the paper and the tv reporters speak too fast for me!
They are also filming something medieval, and tomorrow a film festival begins, the town is at fever pitch!
