Thank god for Dr Geoff's little sleepers, because last night would have been an absolute horror without them, and again tonight. My room overlooks the piazza where everyone walks past on their passegiata, the bar had very loud people sitting out the front drinking, and the shops were still open with people shopping at midnight.
I woke this morning around 8, looked out the window and there were men everywhere wearing strange hats. At one point I had to double look because a nun had joined them. Not wearing a funny hat, but standing around with them having a chat.
I went down for breakfast and OMG anyone who thinks their home needs decluttering needs to see this joint!!! Every square inch of wall has something hanging on it, there are pots and god knows what hanging from the ceiling, there is crap everywhere.
After breakfast I went out and followed the crowd of funny hat wearers and ended up in the piazza at the top of the town where there was a brass band getting their act together. I found a lady who spoke English and she told me that it is the day that the men who live in the mountains and guard the town when their is a war against Bergamo (history/tradition now) get together and celebrate. From what I could work out it is like our ANZAC day.
I watch the band and the men parade themselves through the street but was a bit spewin' I wasn't in my room because could have watched them all and got a good view from my balcony. Next time.
Then I had lunch at the restaurant down stairs. There are not many options for people who don't eat meat in these parts so I ordered potatoes with rosemary and stuffed artichokes. Next thing I see the waitress take off and she comes back ten minutes later with the vegies for my lunch. Fresh!
Then it went down the wifi hill again.
I sent mum an email last night to discover today after lunch that it hadnt gone. The wifi signal here isnt strong enough. Cracked em. What is it wit fricken Italia and it's wifi, but besides that, what is it with the hotels in Italia that think they have wifi when they clearly dont! Mamma mia!
I've just come downstairs to the bar and ordered a spritz and I will try to send an email again (smells of dogs pee here!!)
