Sunday, Father's Day in Aus, is just about over here in Florence. I had an early morning with the church bells then the nuns singing, wasn't too early and at least didn't sound as horrible as the parties around my neighbourhood some Saturday nights.
No breakfast at this nunnery so went to maccas which is just up the road and had an egg mcmuffin - but it really wasn't. I dont know what it was but it wasn't an egg mcmuffin! Then I crossed the road and went to the train station and bought my ticket for Lucca for Thursday so that's done, just as well, I had to wait over an hour in line, imagine how stressy that could be if you bought the ticket the day you wanted to go, thought you gave yourself plenty of time by getting there at least an hour earlier which would be enough time anywhere else but after an hour the train was about to leave and you are still nowhere near buying your ticket! There's a lot to be said for being someone who panics and getting my train ticket days before I'm planning on travelling!
Went for another wander around, saw a group of sword fighters (don't know what they are called) walking along so decided to follow them, they went to Ponte Vecchio, stopped in the middle and gave a bit of a demo. Then I crossed over the bridge to the other side of the river, found 5 euro which was lucky because I needed to go to the toilet and to use a cafe toilet you have to buy something, and to sit at a table and drink coffee is about 2 - 4 euro dearer than standing at the bar, so today I treated myself with someone else's money, bought coffee, sat at a table after using the dunny.
While strolling around I walked past a church that had its door open so went in, sat down and listened to the service. Didn't understand a word of it which was obvious when the father had to indicate to me to stand up at one stage.
Went to the market, lots and lots and lots and lots of leather. One of the stall holders called out to me "Madam, you look like you come from Australia". Now, I have no idea what that means, I'm hardly a bronzed Aussie! I laughed and nodded my head, and he called out "I like your hair"!! Then another one said buon giorno, so I answered him, he then congratulated me because I speak Italian (I answered his buon giorno with 'buon giorno') and shook my hand, another wanted to take me in to his shop that was behind the market stalls. I told him no because I would not be buying, and he said just come and have a look, then he leered at me up and down so I got out of there with a "NO!" Haha!
Then I went in to Central Market, the food market, bought some bread and tomatoes to make some bruschetta for my dinner, stopped off on the way home to the pizzeria down stairs, ordered a cipollata (caramelised onion) pizza, had that with a bird eating bread off my table and the pizzeria pet turtle eating lettuce from my hand, then back to the room where I'm buggered and planning on doing nothing much until tomorrow when I will go to the bus depot and see where I end up. I'm hoping my choices are Volterra, SanGimignano or Montepulciano. If I can't go to any of them I will see where else the bus will take me!
