OMG Venice!

OMG what a place! I arrived here around 11.30 yesterday and went where the guy I have rented this place from was supposed to meet me - walk out of the train station and go across the white bridge were my instructions - I got to the other side of the white bridge, no guy there to meet me. Hawkers hanging around everywhere kept bugging me to take me to hotels (for accommodation!!) they all know so many blah blah, I rang the guy who was sposed to meet me and he was running late, but eventually turned up much to the hawkers' disappointment! We walked to this place, the guy didn't bother offering to take my case or my bag so about half way here I started to walk slower etc until he finally got the hint! Anyway, long story short, this place is old of course, comfortable enough, nothing spectacular BUT my bedroom window opens on to a canal with boats and gondolas going past quite often, the last gondola to go past, the last driver (is that what they are called?) was singing and another guy playing the accordian, hope that doesnt go on all night! LOL

I walked around for a few hours in the afternoon, I was so totally lost, I ended up asking some guy and his wife who were checking out their map where we were and of course I was nowhere near where I thought - I just laugh now at the ridiculousness of my total lack of direction - I almost threw my map away because I can't read the bloody thing anyway, but just as well I didn't because I sat and had a pizza for lunch around 3 and worked out where I was so when I finished my lunch I had the map in front of my face the whole way until I worked out how to get home.

(This is how I get lost! I see something, forget where I am going and just head for it but I am seeing some fantastic things!)

I didn't go out again last night, it's not like Rome where I can just jump in a taxi if I get lost!!
Today I am going to try to find the post office and send some more crap home and then I am going to just get my bearings around this area, then spread my wings a little at a time. I found the Rialto Bridge, but havent been to Saint Marks, I might get there today, I might not, I have plenty of time. I definitely want to get to the islands of Murano and Burano one day but they aren't far and I think I can do them both in one day
by the looks of the map. But you know what I'm like with maps so who knows!!

Last night when I went to have a shower, the window (above the toilet) was open, so I stood on the toilet lid to see where the it opened to, the lid went that way and my feet went the other way, the seat is broken off and so is my toe I think! Not going to tell the landlord or I wont get my 50 euro security deposit back!! (Still don't know where the window opens to).
